Mothers' Day Classic

Financial Synergy is proud to announce that we have once again been a key sponsor of the Hobart Mothers' Day Classic, which took place on Mothers' Day, Sunday 10 May 2009.

As well as sponsoring the Hobart event, we entered teams in the Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney events. Financial Synergy employees, clients, partners and friends are encouraged to get involved. This year, the Mother’s Day Classic fun run/walk for breast cancer research attracted 80,000 people nationally, the highest ever number of participants in the event’s 12-year history, up from 67,000 in 2008.

This annual event, founded and organised by Women in Super, is a major fund contributor to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, a not for profit organisation dedicated to the research and development of breast cancer causes and treatments.

In 2007, Financial Synergy staff raised $3000. For 2008, our staff raised $3500. This year, we have again raised $3500 and extend a warm thank you to everybody who has supported this worthy cause.

If you would like to help us to support the Mothers’ Day Classic for next year, please contact info@financialsynergy.com.au. It doesn’t matter if you run, walk or donate… simply join us in supporting vital breast cancer research.

The Expediters

The Expediters is a group of nominated Financial Synergy team members who help support and organise the company’s charitable activities and social events.

Each year The Expediters run activities to support a staff elected charity. Activities include staff events and fundraising activities such as trivia nights, the staff book library, chocolates, raffles, and much more.

Carers Australia
In 2009, Financial Synergy is supporting Carers Australia. Carers are those who provide unpaid care and support to family members and friends who have a disability, mental illness, chronic condition, terminal illness or who are frail. Carers Australia works with a network of carers' associations in each state and territory to improve the lives of carers. They provide important services such as counselling, advice, advocacy, education and training.

Kids Under Cover
For 2007-2008, Financial Synergy supported Kids Under Cover. A total of $6,000 was raised by Financial Synergy staff.

Kids Under Cover believe every young person has the right to a safe and secure home, and a sound education. They work to make this belief a reality. Kids Under Cover focus on preventing young people from becoming homeless and, where possible, keep families together by raising funds to construct purpose-built houses and demountable bungalows.

Caring for Our Environment

Financial Synergy is always looking for ways to reduce its carbon footprint, protect our natural resources and minimise our impact on the environment.

Financial Synergy has undertaken the following initiatives to help achieve this:

  •         Printer settings for all staff are automatically set to double-sided printing by default
  •         Information is stored on information portal and central servers to avoid unnecessary printing
  •         All staff are provided with multi-recycling bins
  •         Kitchens provide allocated bins for recyclables and organic waste
  •         Secure recycling bins are provided for confidential materials
  •         Externally printed materials are kept to a minimum with only the required quantities being ordered through reputable and recognised suppliers of environmentally sound printing.
  •         Paper purchased contains either recycled content and/ or is sourced from a reputable paper mill that practices sustainable forestry practices
  •         Any redundant letterhead (due to legislative changes) is recycled into notepads for staff members
  •         Used toners and cartridges are recycled.
  •         Educational updates on how to protect our environment are regularly sent to all staff in The Synergist (Financial Synergy’s fortnightly internal newsletter)

Super Funds
Financial Synergy administers the GrowSuper, Super Synergy and Synergy Lifetime Super Funds.

Each of these super funds offers their members the option to receive member communications via email*, and therefore reduces paper usage. For each member that signs up to receive electronic communications, the fund will donate the cost of a tree to LandCare Australia, who will use the tree as part of their revegetation and reforestation activities around Australia.

* Please note: Due to superannuation legislation, super funds may be required to send some communications by post.

World's Greatest Shave

The Leukaemia Foundation's World’s Greatest Shave is one of Australia’s biggest fundraising events, raising funds to help provide practical care and support to patients and families living with leukaemias, lymphomas, myeloma and related blood disorders.
